Oscar-Claude Monet is born in Paris.

The family moves to Le Havre.
1858
At the age of 18, Monet meets the landscape painter Eugène Boudin who encourages him to start painting.
One of his first landscape paintings is shown in a municipal exhibition of Le Havre.
